This is a temporary, trainee position. Candidates that successfully complete training will be eligible for hire as a Regular (full-time) Bus Driver. Trainees will learn to perform the following functions:

computer-based, multiple-choice (written) exam, an interview, and a

Metropolitan Area; State Requirements - Pupil Transportation; First Aid;


Map Reading; and Math - Bus Reports. The performance test consists of


a pre-trip inspection, a drive test, and a maneuvering exercise.

Position Description


This full-time driving position offers a wide variety of work with flexible options across all locations. No experience necessary, as paid training is provided. A School Bus driver is in charge of providing safe transport for school aged children. Duties include, but are not limited to transporting children to and from school, obeying traffic laws, ensuring the safety of all students.


This unique position offers flexibility in the location, vehicle, and hours one can work during the week. This position is or will become certified to drive many different vehicles, and will be servicing schools throughout our 20 locations as operational needs come up. School bus needs are usually Monday through Friday but can in some cases include Saturday or Sunday hours.

Qualifications


Drivers must possess and maintain a valid Wisconsin Driver’s License and have a good driving record.

Drivers must be at least 21 years of age with a minimum of three years continued, valid licensed driving status.

Drivers must be able to obtain and maintain a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with school bus (S*) and passenger endorsements (P*) with the Airbrake restriction lifted.

Drivers must successfully pass a company sponsored Department of Transportation (DOT) physical, pre-employment drug test and background check. They must also meet Department of Transportation requirements.

Primary Purpose:



Responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of students to and from school or other designated locations. Maintains safety of students on the bus through enforcement of safety and student standards of conduct. Performs preventive maintenance and safety checks of the bus.



Qualifications:


Education/Certification:


High School graduate or GED equivalent (recognized by the Texas Education Agency or regional accrediting agency), preferred

Valid Texas commercial driver’s license CDL (Class B)

Major Responsibilities and Duties:



Vehicle Operation


Follow assigned route and adhere to established schedules.

Drive bus to and from extracurricular activities.

Check bus for mechanical defects before and after each operation and notify mechanics of needed repairs.

Report all accidents, vehicle damage, student injuries, and mechanical failures. Complete required reports.

Maintain bus, perform pre-trip inspections (interior/exterior) and keep assigned bus clean and fueled.

Student Management

Learn and adapt to each student’s special medical, physical, communicative, and emotional needs.

Maintain good rapport with students, parents, guardians, campus administration and co-workers.

Manage student behavior and report student discipline problems to appropriate campus administrator and submit Bus Incident Reports, as required.

Instruct students on bus rules/regulations and procedures to safely board, ride, and depart bus and cross the street.

Safety


Observe and stay abreast of all traffic laws and safety regulations for school buses.

Inspect bus by checking fuel, oil, water, tires, lights, brakes, and steering to ensure bus can be operated safely before driving.

Ensure proper condition of emergency equipment, such as first aid kit, fire extinguisher, flags, and body fluid kit.

Correct unsafe conditions in work area that could cause an accident and inform supervisor of any conditions that are not immediately correctable.

Assist with securing appropriate child safety restraint systems.

Report any conditions that impact route to include hazardous and safety related situations immediately.

Other


Operate communication equipment to communicate with transportation office, campuses or district police.

Available to work AM and PM school routes, field trips and other assignments. Work irregular hours as needed.

Attend and complete required training program to maintain safety certification.

Keep records of bus mileage, gas and oil consumption to include number of passengers transported.

Attendance at work is an essential job function.

Perform all other duties as assigned.

The Aide School Bus will attend to the safety, care, and comfort of special education students and other students on all school buses. Assists students in boarding and disembarking from school buses. Lifts and carries students as required. Monitors student behavior on buses. Completes daily attendance of students riding the bus.


Essential Functions

Assists students in boarding and disembarking from all school buses. Lifts students when necessary. Assigns students to seats.

Adjusts safety straps and stores crutches and other orthopedic aids on the bus. Properly secures students in various types of equipment.

Monitors students on the bus for behavioral and physical problems.

Maintains bus schedules of each student on route showing addresses, telephone numbers, pick-ups, etc.

Follows prescribed procedures when a parent or an adult fails to meet a student at the bus stop.

Assists the bus driver in developing emergency evacuation plans and in performing bus evacuation drills.

Assists in emergency situations and efficiently and quickly evacuates students from the bus as needed.

Assists the bus driver in receiving information needed to complete accident reports.

Performs and promotes all activities in compliance with equal employment and nondiscrimination policies and contractual agreements; follows federal laws, state laws, school board policies and professional standards.

Reviews MVA and background records of bus personnel. Recommends and/or takes actions as appropriate.
